How To Clean Silver Jewelry At Home

How To Clean Silver Jewelry At Home

Posted by Nicole Humphries on

If you own silver jewelry, like pieces from Emma’s Jewelry Box, you know how beautiful it can be. However, like any other type of jewelry, silver can become dirty or tarnished over time. But not to worry, cleaning silver jewelry is a simple process that can be done at home with a few basic household items. Here's how to do it:

  1. Gather your supplies: You will need a small bowl, aluminum foil, baking soda, salt, and hot water.

  2. Line the bowl with the aluminum foil: This step is important because the foil helps to remove the tarnish from the silver.

  3. Mix the cleaning solution: In the bowl, mix together 1 quart of hot water, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir the mixture until the baking soda and salt are fully dissolved.

  4. Add the silver jewelry: Place the silver jewelry in the bowl on top of the aluminum foil. Make sure the jewelry is fully submerged in the cleaning solution.

  5. Let it sit: Let the jewelry sit in the solution for about 10-15 minutes.

  6. Rinse and dry: After the time is up, remove the jewelry from the bowl and rinse it thoroughly under warm running water. Be sure to dry the jewelry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth.

That's it! With just a few simple steps, you can easily clean your silver jewelry and bring back its original shine. Just remember to handle the jewelry gently and not to use this cleaning method on any pieces that are strung, such as pearl or bead necklaces. For these types of jewelry, it is best to have them professionally cleaned.
